OctoberFast Wins To Karrick, Taylor, Martin & Derry
Kansas City, KS - Yes, it was cold. Yes, there was racing at Lakeside Speedway. Yes, it was just as exciting as all the other shows this season at Lakeside Speedway.
The third year of the Capitol Federal October Fastival of Speed got underway last night at Lakeside Speedway. More than 90 competitors came to Lakeside Speedway to compete on this fast half-mile track in Kansas. For some, it would be their first trip to race here. Why is this? Because it's a design of owner, Marc Olson, to give drivers that race at other tracks a chance to come to Lakeside Speedway and try out racing at his facility. A wise move, considering he might just have the chance to gain a new driver or two before the next season.
Racing action at Lakeside Speedway has been more than exciting this year and Tim Karrick has been a part of a lot of exciting moments over the years. Saturday night he added to one of those highlights as he out-dueled Mark Dotson for the Modified Feature win.
Karrick worked his way to the front, only to see his lead evaporate. Karrick and Dotson would go several laps side by side and swapping the lead. When you least expected a move for the lead from either of these two drivers they made it work. Watching the two resembled two drivers shooting it out for a $5,000 to win purse instead of $500.
Lapped traffic would come to aid of Karrick as he regained the lead. Dotson wold lose ground late and not be able to get back up to the leader.
Darran Fuqua ran a strong 3rd, 4th went to Cody Owens and rounding out the top 5 was Josh Stevens.
Mike Taylor has seen successful trips to Lakeside Speedway. Saturday night in the Grand National division he returned to his prior days of glory by taking home the feature win in the main event.
Taylor has been working on his program most of the year and in the late stages of the season it looks as if he might be moving in the right direction. A feeling that has to good heading into 2010.
Jim Whisler returned to racing at Lakeside with a 2nd place finish, Travis Walker wound up in 3rd place, Donnie Brown was fourth and Matt Bachman ended up 5th.
The Factory Stock race was marred by a huge crash between Chris Littrel and Darrin Christy, both drivers were ok.
When racing resumed Brad Derry won the event going away.
The race show had to be John Brooks moving from deep in the field to finish 3rd.
Nate Barnes was 3rd, Jr. Billings finished 4th and Jerry Schmidt rounded out the top 5.
In the first visit of the B Mods to Lakeside it was Scotty Martin picking off the win over Mike Taylor. It took a last lap pass from Martin to gain the victory.
Mike Taylor was 2nd, Brian Murphy 3rd, Lance Lincoln and Clint Baker finished out the top 5.
